DALLAS LIONS CLUB CELEBRATES 75TH ANNIVERSARY!
Dallas Lions Club to Celebrate Their 75th Anniversary as a Service Club in the Back Mountain on February 19th, 2025!
Chartered by Lions International in 1950, the Dallas Lions Club will be celebrating our 75th Anniversary on Wednesday, February 19th, 2025 at Apple Tree Terrace at Newbery Estates.
The Dallas Lions Club is a chartered member of one of the largest membership-based service club organizations in the world, Lions Clubs International. Our Lions Club is made up of women and men from our local communities who contribute their time, talent, and treasure to help make their community a better place to live and work. We primarily focus our philanthropic efforts on supporting Vision Health, Childhood/Family Hunger, and Education.
Our motto is We Serve and just this past year alone, the Dallas Lions have contributed over $10,000 to various charitable organizations such as:
Leader Dogs for the Blind – helping to sponsor Leader Dog puppy training
Back Mountain Library – helping them with the acquisition of large print books
Dinners for Kids Program – feeding hungry children in our area
Back Mountain & Fellowship Church Food Banks – helping feed families in need
Misericordia Women With Children Program – helping economically challenged single moms
Patriots Cove – providing outdoor retreats for Veterans and First Responders
… Just to Name a Few
Additionally, the Dallas Lions Club awards three $1,000 scholarships (annually) to deserving graduating high school students living in the Back Mountain. The “Joseph J Canfield Scholarships” (named after a long time Dallas Lion Club member) help to offset the students cost of college or trade school expenses.
As an active community organization, the Dallas Lions volunteer over 30 hours, annually, to ring the bell for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign and provide the Christmas display at the Dallas Post Office. We also hold annual fundraisers like the Dallas Lions “Frank Rollman Memorial Golf Tournament” in July, run the Lion’s booth at the Luzerne County Fair in September, and run a month long “Match the Daily Number” lottery in June. In May of 2025 we will be hosting our first Corn Hole Tournament to benefit 3 specific charitable organizations: 1. Back Mountain Baseball, 2. Patriots Cove, and 3. Leader Dogs for the Blind.
The Dallas Lions Club is always looking to welcome new members. We meet the 1st & 3rd Thursday of each month at TC Riley’s Restaurant at 6:00pm. If you are interested and considering joining our community based organization, please contact our Membership Chairmen, Don Berlew on 570.760.6147 or contact him at dlb124@icloud.com.
